The Hue Of Shadow
Welcome to sticks! The best way to learn how to become a shadow lies in the melodies of a song. The song is called "The Hue Of Shadow". I wrote this song in 2005 on the influence of several of Yanni's odd metered songs and in an effort to train myself how to control melody and rhythm when time is obscure. I have to be honest with you, at the time I wrote it, I didn't know what the song was "about". I assert that we as artists, creators, composers don't always have a preconceived notion of what we're creating, but rather our deeper psyches simply manifest meaning in the form of music as we go along. Listening to the song today, more than ten years after I wrote it, I realize that psychologically it was born of my then invisibility, the way I felt unseen by those whom I yearned most to be noticed. Interspersed are threads of nostalgia - 'I must have been loved at some time in my past' - and strains of determination to prove that I was worth noticing - 'Perhaps if I write a complex song full of excitement and energy others will want to join me.' Have you ever felt like that? Email me and share your story with me.
